Tesla accessories, products and services: skip the trial and error

This page covers the accessories, products and services around a Tesla, so you can skip the trial and error. The review table only lists what I, Lifei Zhou, have used or evaluated myself: the verdicts come from real use and are my personal opinion, not lab tests, and they do not speak for any brand. Below the table are the site's accessory buying guides.

Tesla Model Y Long RangeOrdered January 2022
Recommended

I ordered it on the Tesla website without a test drive and have driven it for close to four years: commuting, road trips and Toronto winters. Routine maintenance is cheap; tires are where the money goes.

Paid for it myself. The referral link earns me a personal reward.

FSD (Supervised)Driver assistance, subscription
Recommended

In summer 2024 I used it for a 1,400 km round trip from Oakville to Ottawa and Montreal. Long highway days are where it earns its keep. It is driver assistance: you watch the road the whole time.

New-car orders through the referral link come with 3 months of FSD (Supervised).

Starlink MiniSatellite internet, Roam plan
Recommended

I bought it myself. On my Toronto balcony it measured 131 Mbps down, and it works on the Model Y dashboard through the windshield. If you already have cheap city fibre, do not replace it with this; the value is being online once you leave the city.

Paid for it myself. Referral link is for Canada only: one month of service credited to your second bill.

JOWUA Starlink Mini power kitUSB-C to DC cable + 165W car charger, US$65.95
Recommended

The USB-C ports in a Tesla cannot power the Mini. This kit runs it from the 12 V socket in the centre console: no tools, no trim removal, installed in minutes.

Tires and roadside

I have bought a pile of official Tesla products, and the Tesla name does not guarantee quality. An air compressor is close to a must-have for every car: even with a nail in the tire the air leaks out slowly, so topping it up usually gets you home.

JOWUA 100W cordless air compressorUS$79.95
Recommended

Cordless: a built-in lithium-ion battery, no 12 V cable, and more convenient than the official Tesla one. Easy to operate, compact and well built.

Tesla Air Compressor + Tire Repair Kit 3.0CA$150 plus tax, Tesla shop · bought two years ago
Not recommended

I bought it two years ago and it is not convenient in real use: the compressor runs off 12 V and its buttons are unresponsive. The sealant does real harm to tires with acoustic foam, and Tesla itself advises replacing the tire after using it.

Paid for it myself. No relationship.

Repair and maintenance

XIUCHE: wheel alignment and tiresMarkham, Ontario · by appointment
Recommended

Hunter computerized alignment with a printed before-and-after sheet, Tesla lift pads, tire changes, repairs and balancing. For Teslas it only does alignment and tires. Call or text 437-214-5267.

The shop where I work: transparent, honest, and work I can stand behind.

Tesla Service Centre maintenanceQuotes from my Tesla app, Sept 2026
Depends

Before tax: wheel alignment CA$330, tire rotation CA$85, wiper blades CA$93, cabin filter CA$98. On the expensive side for alignment and tires, but battery, motor, high-voltage and software work can only go here.

No relationship.

Interactive Brokers (IBKR) CanadaBrokerage, TFSA
Recommended

My own Canadian TFSA is at IBKR, and it is where I buy US stocks. This is what I use, not investment advice.

Accessory buying guides

Guides for Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X and Cybertruck: floor mats, screen protection, storage, charging, dashcam and camping gear, all available in the US and Canada. These explain how to choose and what to avoid; the products I have used myself are in the review table above.

How this list grows

I add a row only after I have used the product or service myself, and I change a verdict when my experience changes. Brands that want a product evaluated can read the partnership page or write to [email protected]. Being a partner does not buy a good verdict.

Independent site, not affiliated with Tesla, Inc. This page contains referral links and partner links, marked in each row; the disclosure page explains how they work. Prices are as of the date above and change without notice.
